Raised Ceiling in Flatiron

Our client requested that we raise their ceiling as close as possible to the cement slab between their floor and the floor above them. They gained an additional 5 inches evidenced by this photo showing a line where the previous ceiling existed. The previous contractor used steel studs to mount the ceiling (which were surprisingly easy to pull out of the cement because the fasteners only barely held the ceiling in place.) Our method of fastening wooden furring strips to the cement ceiling rendered much stronger results. The previous contractor also used fixtures with larger canisters and light bulbs, forcing the ceiling down to a lower height. Our use of LED down-lights dropped the ceiling a total of only two inches. The the images in the gallery below chronicle our two week process for this project.
